I love the 70s....

What were some of your favorite songs growing up? I remember listening to WRKO AM radio.. also my sisters had a record player that looked like a black suitcase which we kept up in our room and would listen to 45s on it.

Some that bring me waaaayyyyy back..

The Night that the Lights went our in Georgia (and the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands) (This was a scary song to me when I was a little girl)

Midnight at the Oasis (really weird song)

Delta Dawn (what's that flower you have on? could it be a faded rose from Days gone by?? And did I hear you say, he was a meetin you here today.. to take you to his mansion in the sky)

My Eyes Adored you (though I never laid a hand on you.. my eyes adored you.. Like a million miles away from me you couldn't see how I adored you.. so close, so close and yet so far..)

Sweet, Sweet Loretta ( you know I loved you better.. than anyone of those other guys.. that looked at you with those sparkling eyes!)..

Heartbeat its a lovebeat and a lovebeat is a good vibration, Oh a heartbeat, its a lovebeat and when we meet its a good sensation...

Spiders and Snakes (yuck)

Now that you're all singing... what are some of your favs?

"Run Joey Run" was one I remember..."Leave Your Worries Behind" was another...and I recall doing "the bump" with my kindergarten teacher in 1974...my first real favorite song, though, was the theme song from "Chico And The Man," and my Aunt Linda bought me the Jose Feliciano album featuring that number for my 5th birthday...first album I ever owned, and I played it every day for at least a year. Then I discovered Shaun Cassidy in first grade, and I was all about "Da Doo Ron Ron Ron" -- short lived fantasy until I was eight and I saw a picture of KISS in my older cousin Chrissy's copy of 16 Magazine...and then it was straight down the heavy metal road for me...with a few detours into pop and punk/new wave along the way.

    Someone's knockin' at the door
    Somebody's ringin' the bell
    Do me a favor,
Open the door and let 'em in(repeat)
    Sister Suzie, brother John,
    Martin Luther, Phil And Don,
    Brother Michael, Auntie Gin,
    Open the door,let 'em in.
    Sister Suzi, brother John,
    Martin Luther, Phil and Don,
    Uncle Ernie,Auntie Gin
open the door, let em in

That song takes me right back to a b-day party I went to in the 70's where they had pony rides. Funny the things you remember.

Good topic Karen! I love 70's music...

"Look in your heart and let LOVE keep us togeeeethheeerr...."

Of course "Delta Dawn" was always my song...

Remember "Jeremiah was a bullfrog... dah dah dah - was a good friend of mine, etc" I swam to that in one of my "water ballet" recitals.

Of course the Jackson 5, Earth, Wind and Fire, the Commodores, all that cool stuff! Thanks for bringing it all back, I'm gonna have to put some 70's tunes on tomorrow!

I had two older sisters listening to music all the time, so I'm sure I wouldn't know some of these if it wasn't for them and then.. my brother Eddie introduced me to Aerosmith and I was a goner... 6th grade I found ROCK and ROLL!

Get yourself a cooler and lay yourself low, coincidental murder with nothin to show.....

I have 9 older sibs so a lot of this stuff is older. I'm just trying to pick out songs that we used to listen to on our transistor radio while we were playing wiffleball. The big station was WABC-AM. Here goes:
Brandy (You're a fine girl...) -Looking Glass
    Half Breed -Cher
    Saturday, In the Park-Chicago
Chuckie's In Love -Rick Lee Jones
    Maybe I'm Amazed -Wings
    Born to Run -Bruce Springsteen
    My Sharona -The Knack
    American Pie -Don McClean
    Magnet & Steel
    Jackie Blue
    Nights on Broadway-BeeGees
Dancin' Queen -ABBA (I think that was still the '70's.)
Benny and the Jets -Elton John
Hang On (Help is on the way)-Can't remember the group
    Fire and Rain -JT
    FREEBIRD! -Lynard Skynard

    Found it on Google

    Help Is On Its Way
    by The Little River Band

Why're you in so much hurry?
Is it really worth the worry?
    Look around.
    Then slow down.

What's it like inside the bubble?
Does your head ever give you trouble?

    It's no sin.
    Trade it in.

    CHORUS
    Hang on.
    Help is on its way.
I'll be there as fast as I can.

    Hang on,
    A tiny voice did say,
From somewhere deep inside the inner man.

    Are you always in confusion?
    Surrounded by illusion?
    Sort it out.
    You'll make out.

Seem to make a good beginning
    Someone else ends up winning.
    Don't seem fair.
    Don't you care?

    CHORUS

Don't you forget who'll take care of you.
It don't matter what you do.
Form a duet let him sing melody.
    You'll provide the harmony.

Why're you in so much hurry?
Is it really worth the worry?
    Look around.
    Then slow down.

What's it like inside the bubble?
Does your head ever give you trouble?
    It's no sin.
    Trade it in.

    CHORUS

    Help is on its way!
    Help is on its way!

Oh, here's another: We're An American Band -Grand Funk Rail Railroad

That is so cool, Mel.. I love that song and pretty much everything by DS.. maybe except Love to love you baby...

I spent a whole summer calling FM 105 asking for Da Doo Ron Ron Ron.. and the other Shaun Cassidy song. My friend had a phone out by her pool and I was probably 11 and she was 12 and we got on the radio a bunch of times.. We were obsessed! She was also in love with Donny Osmond, while I preferred Starsky (or Paul Michael Glaser) and we would play this pool game where one would yell out a celebrity's name or a boy's name and if we though they were ugly, we would jump in and if we thought there were OK we would have dive and if we liked them we would dive and swim all the way to the other side.. Ahhh prepubescents.. it was so much fun!

Link should work now, not sure what happened there!

I'm trying to think of one of my all time favorite songs and I can't think of it. It's something about turn the key but it's not "Let them in" by Wings and it's not "You're my eveything" by the Bee Gees... something about a key or love turns the key or something like that... anyone???

  • At 10:27 AM, Blogger Dawn said…
