Uh oh....

Duval has won the election for Governor here in MA. This means I am going to have to pay much more attention to what goes on under the golden dome in Boston. The democrats are having a big ol party for themselves. Who is Duval Patrick and where the heck did he come from? Why on earth would he want to give illegal immigrants a driver's lisence? They don't have any insurance.. what do they do when they are in an accident.. who is going to get screwed here?

This will be interesting...and a little bit scary.

I guess the scare tactics for Question 1 won out too.. No wine in the supermarkets here in MA. Sure, give the illegal a lisence but don't allow the suburban house mom to grab a bottle of white to consume in her house. C R A Z Y !!!!!!!

Karen..you can't possibly believe he wants to "give" licenses to illegals...like stand on the corner and just hand them out? And, besides, plenty of people without licenses DO drive cars every day, anyway...how many times right here in our area have we had some drunk driver arrested only to find out that his license was revoked years ago? Lack of a license doesn't stop a certain type of person from getting behind the wheel...so I kind of think that point is moot and was just used to stir up xenophobia and racist feelings...it was an unfair and silly attack. I can honestly say I only know what Patrick's website says about him...he hasn't held an elected office before so at least he's fresh blood. This state has gone nowhere but down since Romney's been in, so, I am at least optimistically looking at it as a fresh start from a non-insider...that said, I voted for Independent Mihos because he was right out there, outspoken, and not afraid to be himself.

Oh, and I am surprised and PISSED that the Question One was voted down!

Well, the negative campaigning got to me...If indeed he wanted to "give" a license to yet another driver without insurance, I don't think it's a good idea! Having been hit before by a man named Mumma whose sister called me at work and wanted to work a "deal" because Mumma had no insurance.. I almost fell for it because I used to be nice, until my father told me to go through my insurance company because otherwise I'd pretty much be screwed.. so needless to say, Mumma's sister wasn't happy.

I know nothing about where Duval Patrick came from and wish I could share your optimism, but I don't.

I'm just nervous about this guy..I guess. We already live in one of the most liberal and highly taxed states... and its that time of year, Jessybear.

Your experience with "mumma" sounds like a scene from a farrelly bros. movie! Seriously, though, license does not equal insurance. If the illegals are allowed to get a license, at least you can say they have some minimal competency (although we all know the registry mainly exists as a revenue source for the state, rather than a regulatory agency)...but anyone can get behind the wheel of any car and disregard the law. I think the appeal with making a change away from Healey/Romney is the reality of how many jobs and residents have left MA over the past several years, and the Big Dig fiasco...people are just not trusting them and not feeling secure about living here any more...when the guy came to do our septic inspection in July, the first thing he said to me, and he wasn't joking, was, "So where are you moving? Let me guess - North Carolina? South Carolina? It has to be one or the other." Companies and people are leaving MA in droves and the finger is being pointed at the person at the top. So, Anyway : ) this is where the chips fell and I do hope that more control/$$$ is returned to the local cities and towns, and that more money is directed toward schools (facilities and faculty) and this starts to be a great place to live again.

I thoroughly agree with the take on Massachusetts. Having lived in another state, where every single thing (except for property tax) was SO MUCH CHEAPER.. but we also have a lot to offer here. I will have an open mind (not that I have a choice!) and hope for the best.. My mom told me he gave a wonderful acceptance speech :)

Can't the moms have a little vino to forget about the illegals driving around crashing into people?

I like the Mumma story. That name reminds me of Baboo from the Seinfeld episode.
Jeddy (jerry) You are a veddy bad man. Veddy Bad Man! (tick-tock wag of the finger)

Drew, it was just like a Seinfeld episode.. the girls in my office would crack up because I would say "that was Mumma's sister calling"... so the big joke was Mumma's sister...

    Veddy Veddy bad :)

I also used to work with a "low talker" remember that one?
